Our Engagement Story {Wedding Series}

With all the excitement of my best friend's wedding planning, I figured I would start a wedding series from my wedding since I am horrible at journal keeping. Helping her plan her wedding brings back so many memories from when Dallan and I went through that and I really need to write it down. So I am sharing our story with you amazing people!

It happened on September 23, 2011.

It was a pretty chaotic Friday. Megan (my roommate of 2 years and one of my best friends) and I lived in Provo at the time and would commute (Megan would drive us) to Salt Lake City for school at the LDS Business College. Megan's mom had won tickets to the Iheart radio music festival in Las Vegas that year! Lucky duck! So Megan was planning on driving to Vegas after school that day. Megan, being the super generous person she is, told this one girl (we will call her Stacy because I don't remember her name..) from school that she would drive her to the music festival too! So after we were all done with our classes, Megan, Stacy and I went to Stacy's house so she could "grab her bags." Well it turns out that she never packed the day before like she had said so Megan and I waited outside in the car for about 40 minutes putting Megan almost an hour behind in her driving plans. Then that caused us to hit the heavy BYU football traffic... what a mess!

I was so stressed about Megan and her trip to Vegas that Dallan had asked if I would want to go to PF Changs for dinner. I told him yes that I was starving. Well throughout the dinner Megan was texting me about Stacy and how she forgot her wallet and long story short left Stacy in Provo to get a ride back home because it was making Megan about 3 hours behind schedule! So annoying. And yes, it was a bad move on my part to be texting on a date, but I was so worried about Megan driving alone to Vegas. Dallan understood so he was fine, he was worried for Megan too.

After dinner, Dallan suggested we go to Bridal Veil Falls because that was a favorite place of mine to go to when I was feeling stressed or homesick. We hike up to the falls and Dallan told me to look at the mountain goat across the way. So I turn and look and there was one! I turn back to Dallan and he is on one knee with the ring out ready to spill all his feelings when I got so scared and nervous! I said "Wait, wait! Not yet!" I felt so bad! I didn't say, "No, I don't want to marry you." I basically said I needed more time to process it because we had just bought the ring and I take awhile to adjust to new changes. Boy did I feel so, so bad!

But Dallan did not give up. After the few awkward minutes walking back down to the car, we decided to go play some laser tag. We get to the arena and there was no one there. We thought it was closed at first but then we realized that the football game was going on so the whole town of Provo was at the game. We had the WHOLE arena to ourselves for 30 minutes! It was pretty cool. The arena was huge and super dark and I was scared because I had no idea where Dallan was. Near the end of the game I come around the corner and see Dallan so by instinct I started to shoot him with the laser. Then he got down on his knee and said a whole bunch of things that I don't remember and we got engaged! It actually ended up being better than the falls because we were completely alone besides the laser tag workers.

We called our families and closest friends and the next few weeks were pretty crazy getting used to everything but I wouldn't change it for the world!

Dallan did a good job! (Just kidding... I picked it out!)

This Picture is from a week or so later at a football game. Basically our first picture of us engaged. We didn't even think to take a picture that night! I told you things were crazy!
